Aims and Constitution

The Society consists of individuals and does not admit corporate membership. It was first formed by the founders, Grace Abamba and Sola Ojo in 2019, and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in May 2020. The primary aim of the Society is to promote the advancement of science and technology in the cosmetics and personal care industries in Nigeria and the diaspora.
  1. Promote the advancement of science and technology in the cosmetic and toiletries industry.
  2. Facilitate and improve the scientific knowledge of the individual members.
  3. Promote high ethical standards of cosmetic science.
  4. Provide the means for the dissemination, collaboration, and interchange of knowledge pertinent to cosmetic science and related sciences.
  5. Encourage education and good practices in cosmetic science, technology and engineering.
  6. Establish contact and promote dialogue with relevant industry and government bodies.
  7. Ensure the survival and long-term viability of the Society.

The Society Framework

We are the 50th member of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) formed in 1959.

The management of the Society is vested in the Council, which consists of the President, the Immediate Past President, the Vice-President, the Honorary 

Secretary, the Honorary Treasurer, in addition to seven ordinary members. The policies formed by the Council are supported by active committees: Scientific and Research, Education and Learning, Membership and Recruitment, Publicity and Marketing, Social and Welfare.

The controlling body of the Society shall be known as the Council. Such Council shall include the President, Vice President, Immediate Past President, Honorary Treasurer, and Honorary Secretary, in addition to seven other ordinary members.

The policies formed by the Council are supported by active committees: Scientific and Research, Education and Learning, Membership and Recruitment, Publicity and Marketing, Social and Welfare.

The Society is administered by the NICOS Secretariat which includes the Secretary General and Honorary Secretary.

The Society is still growing with individual Members. Networking & collaborating is essential to increasing NICOS Membership.
A full NICOS member can join the Council for a maximum term of 3 years (see constitution). A full member can also be nominated for officer roles – Vice President, Hon Secretary and Hon Treasurer which are voluntary roles although it is preferred that experience of NICOS organisation is obtained first by joining a committee and becoming a Council member.
There are five committees within NICOS. The committees meet regularly and report their activities to the NICOS Council. As a Full, Associate, Affiliate or Student member of the Society, you can join a committee of your choice by contacting the secretariat Your name will then be passed onto the chair of your chosen committee.
The Council report back to the membership via the NICOS newsletter, emails, NICOS website or one of its social media platforms.

Full members of the NICOS can apply to join the Council at the Annual General Meeting by completing and forwarding a nomination form to the NICOS Secretariat. Nomination papers are sent out in November each year. The AGM takes place annually in December of each year.

Committee Roles

The Executives
The committee consists of the President, Immediate Past President, Vice President, Honorary Treasurer, Honorary Secretary and General secretary known as Officers of the Society.
Role: To make recommendations to Council regarding financial and administrative operations of the Society.
Education & Learning Committee
The committee consists of individual members of the Society
Role: Maintaining the high standards of various courses and workshops and the stewardship of the educational activities of the Society.
Scientific & Research Committee
The committee consists of individual members of the to focus on all the scientific programmes offered by the Society
Role: To organise programmes for NICOS scientific webinars, lectures and conference, and joint events with other related organisations.
Membership & Recruitment Committee
The Honorary Secretary with individual members of the Society.
Role: To consider applications for membership and to make appropriate recommendations to Council.
Publicity & Marketing Committee
The committee consists of individual members of the Society.
Role: To identify and implement campaigns to raise awareness of NICOS on all available platforms and to encourage membership of the Society; to publish the NICOS newsletter for members.
Social & Welfare Groups
The committees consist of individual members of the Society
Role:To organise social events. To promote the welfare and wellbeing of the Society and her members within and outside Nigeria.
